Over a year ago my friend Anna told me that her husband was very into reading things on Substack. Being a Gen Xer and not knowing what she was even talking about, I decided I had too much to think about and said, “I would think about it”. Well, here I am. Hat in hand. Anna’s husband was on the money and I should have started this months ago!
What is Substack you ask? To quote the Everygirl Blog as she described it like this: “Substack is an online platform designed to serve as a resource for people wanting to start a subscription newsletter. Not only can you access publishing tools, but Substack makes it easy to monetize your newsletter, setting you up with a payment system as well as easy ways to track your analytics.
So there you have it. It is similar to the newsletter I already had yet the platform itself is searchable.
Frustrations
I love this blog and writing all the recipes, travel stories and cookbook reviews for my community. It brings me nothing but joy. The challenge is I am a teeny-tiny little part in the big search engine world of Google. If you aren’t searching specifically for this blog or a certain recipe, the SEO don’t even get picked up.
It is leading to a lot of frustration. I feel like Julia in Julie/Julia when she says “Is anybody out there”? Most of my comments tend to be rude or sexual in nature from bots and stalkers. While I am flattered that they chose me to bother, I am forced to screen my comments. It is more than annoying.
Substack etc.
One of the main reasons that I love sharing content on Substack is other people are finding my community that might not be on social media. You can search for anything. I am sure you will enjoy it.
Most of my content is free but there is the option to get recipes monthly for $7. You can opt out at any time. Check it out here, sign up for notifications. This link does NOT require payment, you can do that on Substack if you choose to do so.
